Plans
Temar offers four plans to fit different learning needs. Every plan includes unlimited topics, notes, and chunks — the only difference is how much managed AI access you get and which models are available.

What is a Pass?
A Pass is Temar's credit unit for managed AI usage. Each AI operation — such as generating questions or analyzing your answer — deducts a fractional amount from your balance based on actual token usage and model pricing. Most operations cost well under 1 Pass. Your current balance is always visible in the dashboard sidebar.
Pass credits are included with paid plans (100, 200, or 300 per month depending on your tier) and can also be purchased as top-up packs. If you use BYOK, you do not need Passes at all.
BYOK vs. managed AI
Temar supports two ways to power its AI features:
BYOK (Bring Your Own Key)
- Connect your own API key from Google AI Studio, Anthropic, or DeepSeek.
- All AI operations are free on Temar — you pay the provider directly at their standard rates.
- No Pass credits are consumed.
- Available on every plan, including Free.
- Set up in Settings → AI & Data.
Managed AI
- Temar handles everything — no API key needed.
- Each operation costs Pass credits from your balance.
- Available on Starter, Hobbyist, and Scholar plans.
- Model availability depends on your plan tier (Economy, Standard, or Premium).
You can switch between BYOK and managed AI at any time. If you have a BYOK key configured and it fails (e.g., the key expires), Temar will fall back to managed AI if you have Pass credits available.
Top-up packs
Need more Passes than your plan includes? Purchase top-up packs for extra credits:
- 50 Passes for $2.50
- 100 Passes for $5.00
Top-up credits never expire for 12 months from the date of purchase and are used only after your monthly subscription credits are depleted. They carry over between billing cycles within that window.
Upgrading and downgrading
You can change your plan at any time from the Billing tab in Settings:
- Upgrading — takes effect immediately. You receive the difference in Pass credits for the current billing period, prorated.
- Downgrading — takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep your current plan's credits until then.
- Cancelling — you retain access to your plan until the end of the current billing period, then revert to the Free plan. Your content (topics, notes, chunks) is never deleted.
Paddle as Merchant of Record
All payments are processed by Paddle, which acts as Temar's Merchant of Record. This means Paddle handles invoicing, tax calculation, and compliance for all transactions. When you see a charge on your payment method, it will appear as a Paddle transaction.
You can manage your payment methods, view invoices, and update billing details through the Paddle customer portal, accessible from Settings → Billing.
