The Settings page is organized into six tabs, each covering a different area of your account. Open it from the sidebar or navigate directly to Dashboard → Settings.

  • My Details — update your display name, email address, and profile picture.
  • Security — change your password and manage active sessions.
  • AI & Data — configure your AI provider, model, BYOK key, retirement presets, and review limits.
  • Appearance — choose between light, dark, and system themes.
  • Integrations — connect external services like Google Calendar.
  • Billing — manage your subscription plan, view invoices, and purchase top-up packs.

AI & Data

This is where you control how Temar generates questions and evaluates your answers. The AI & Data tab has several important sections.

Provider and model selection

Temar supports multiple AI providers and models. You can choose from:

  • Google Gemini — fast, cost-effective, great for most use cases.
  • Anthropic Claude — excellent at nuanced reasoning and detailed rubric generation.
  • DeepSeek — a strong economy option with competitive performance.

Each operation type (question generation and answer analysis) can be configured with a different provider and model. For example, you might use Gemini for question generation and Claude for answer analysis.

Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)

BYOK lets you connect your own AI API key so that all AI operations run against your personal account with the provider. This means zero Pass cost — you pay only what the provider charges, and Temar does not add any markup.

  1. 1

Get an API key from your provider

Visit the developer console for Google AI Studio, Anthropic, or DeepSeek and create a new API key. Copy it to your clipboard.

  2. 2

Go to Settings → AI & Data

Open the Settings page and click the AI & Data tab.

  3. 3

    Toggle BYOK on

Flip the BYOK switch to enable it. The API key input field will appear.

  4. 4

    Paste your key and save

Paste your API key into the field and click Save. Temar will validate the key by making a test request to the provider.

  5. 5

    Select your preferred model

Once your key is validated, choose which model to use for each operation type. Available models depend on your provider.

Start free with BYOK

BYOK is the easiest way to get started with Temar. Use your own API key for free, unlimited AI usage. Most providers offer generous free tiers or low per-request pricing, so you can try everything before committing to a paid plan.

Your key is safe

Your API key is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before being stored. Temar never stores your key in plaintext, and it is only decrypted at the moment it is needed to make an API call on your behalf.

Retirement presets

Retirement presets control when Temar automatically retires a recall item and generates a new question for the same chunk. This keeps your reviews fresh and prevents over-drilling on questions you have already mastered. Three presets are available:

  • Deep Learner — conservative, stability-focused. Items are retired only when their stability is very high, meaning you will review the same question many times before a new one is generated. Best for material you want to know cold.
  • Balanced — the default preset. Strikes a middle ground between repetition depth and question variety. Suitable for most learners.
  • Fast Mover — aggressive, reps-focused. Items are retired earlier, so you see a wider variety of questions more quickly. Good for broad survey courses or when you want to test yourself from many angles.

Max reviews per question

This setting caps how many times a single question can appear in your reviews before it is automatically retired and replaced. Lower values increase question variety; higher values allow deeper repetition on the same question.

Google Calendar sync

Temar can sync your upcoming review schedule to a dedicated Google Calendar, so you see your study sessions alongside your other commitments.

  • Connect via OAuth — click the Connect button in Settings → Integrations and authorize Temar to create events in your Google Calendar.
  • Automatic sync — whenever your review schedule changes (new items tracked, reviews completed), Temar updates your calendar events automatically.
  • Manual full sync — if things get out of sync, hit the Full Sync button to rebuild all calendar events from scratch.

Appearance

Choose between Light, Dark, and System themes. The System option follows your operating system preference and switches automatically as your OS theme changes.
