Getting Started
Learn what Temar is, create your account, and generate your first review questions in minutes.
What is Temar?
Temar is a learning platform that combines spaced repetition with AI-powered question generation to help you truly understand and retain what you study. Unlike traditional flashcard apps that rely on simple recall, Temar reads your study material, generates thoughtful questions with detailed grading rubrics, and evaluates your answers using AI — so every review session pushes your understanding deeper.
At its core, Temar uses the FSRS algorithm (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler) to figure out the optimal moment to review each piece of knowledge — right before you would forget it. This means you spend less time studying and more time retaining.
How it works
Temar organizes your study material into a simple hierarchy: Topics contain Notes, and Notes contain Chunks. Chunks are the atomic units of knowledge — each one becomes a source for AI-generated review questions. Here is how to get started:
- 1
Create your account
Sign up for free — no credit card required. You can use Temar immediately with your own AI API key (BYOK) or purchase Pass credits for managed AI access.
- 2
Create your first Topic
Head to the Library and create a Topic. Think of Topics as folders — they could be a course, a subject, or any area you want to study.
- 3
Add a Note
Inside your Topic, create a Note. Notes are like documents or chapters within your Topic.
- 4
Write your Chunks
Break your Note into Chunks using the rich-text editor. Each Chunk should focus on a single concept or idea. Use headings, lists, code blocks, math equations, and more to capture your material clearly.
- 5
Track for question generation
Click the "Track" button on any Chunk, Note, or Topic. Temar's AI reads your content and generates review questions with detailed grading rubrics. Choose from open-ended, multiple choice, or LeetCode-style coding questions.
- 6
Start reviewing
Visit the Reviews page to see your due items. Answer questions, get AI-powered feedback, and rate your recall. The FSRS algorithm handles the scheduling so you review at the perfect time.
Free with your own API key
Temar supports Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) — connect your OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google API key in Settings and all AI features (question generation, answer analysis, and AI writing tools) are completely free. No Pass credits needed.
Key concepts
- Topics, Notes, and Chunks — your content hierarchy. Topics are top-level folders, Notes are documents within them, and Chunks are the individual reviewable sections within a Note.
- Tracking — when you track a Chunk, Temar generates AI questions for it and starts scheduling reviews. You can track individual Chunks, entire Notes, or whole Topics at once.
- Pass credits — the currency for managed AI usage. Each AI operation deducts a fractional amount based on actual token usage. You can purchase Passes or skip them entirely with BYOK.
- FSRS — the spaced repetition algorithm that determines when you should review each item. It adapts to your performance over time, scheduling harder items more frequently and easier ones less often.
- Reviews — structured study sessions where you answer AI-generated questions, receive feedback, and rate your own recall. Your ratings feed back into FSRS to optimize future scheduling.
